Our Facilities

Cardwen Farm is nestled in around 2 acres of mature gardens with a large open river fed pond that runs right down to nearby fishing village Polperro. Substantially re-landscaped in summer 2025 we have since seen Otters, Kingfishers and Herons enjoying the large pond (or is it a tiny tiny lake?). With an impressive collection of Hydrangea, Camellia, Rhododendron, Acer, an Orchard of fruit trees and substantial shrub planting Siobhan has made it her mission since taking ownership in 2018 to add even more bee friendly year around colour and perennial planting to the already very impressive garden. Each year since 2018 200-500 bulbs have been planted making spring a real wow moment here.

In the dip of a valley surrounded by farmland and a vineyard you will often find cows and sheep leaning over the fence line watching the activities of visitors with apparent interest.  Our coastal and countryside location enjoys the best of wildlife, with pheasants and a huge variety of wild birds to watch from the comfort of the many patio sets and benches, you may even be lucky enough to see deer move through the fields and gardens. Enjoy the fresh crisp sea air rolling over the hills, and the dappled light dancing through the trees in a setting of calm tranquillity.

Guests in Lily Cottage are thrilled to learn of the resident beautiful Barn Owls who live in a purpose built owl box in the roof of this converted barn holiday cottage. The owl box contains a camera which sends a live feed to Owl TV – available at no extra charge in all the cottages. A real delight particularly when fluffy owlets make an appearance.  For those quiet and patient enough, guests who sit outside at dusk will be treated to the owls flying away from Lily Cottage to hunt and feed their demanding young. At dusk we are often treated to the hooting of another species of Owl nearby who seem particularly determined to let the Barn Owls know whose territory they are near!

Our gardens are all open and shared, each cottage has its own private patio area. None of these areas are currently fenced. Please note: open water. Do not let children, the infirm and animals wander without supervision. Ground may be uneven and slippery.

We provide a locally baked cream tea waiting in your cottage, and some milk. The perfect start to your holiday and very popular with guests. A little too popular with Siobhan as there are usually a couple of irresistible scones left over… The cottages will always have individual sachets of Cornish Tea, Cornish Coffee and  Sugar ready, a few dishwasher tabs and cleaning supplies, tea towels, plus 2 toilet rolls to get you going on your self catering holiday. If you have any questions about what to bring get in touch, we try to ‘think of everything” so you don’t need to pack the proverbial kitchen sink. Each cottage has a washing machine. Laundry liquid is not provided.  If urgently required, Siobhan may be able to take clean washing and tumble dry if required at £5 per load. There is no guest access to this facility.

The location, location, location! of Cardwen Farm was a huge selling point to us when we bought it, as the advantage of its position is perfect for holidaymakers. You can find us easily without travelling down lanes with grass in the middle, yet we are still in the country and by the sea, away from too much light pollution – on a clear night you can see the Milky Way in full glory. With easy access to the A30 and A38 it is a great base to explore the delights of Cornwall and South Devon. Walkers have great access to the South West Coast Path, the fantastic beaches of Polperro, Looe, Talland, Lantic, Seaton, Portwrinkle are within easy reach. Close to Bodmin Moor and an easy 40 minute drive to the most popular North Cornwall coast destinations. Located between the historic fishing villages of Looe and Polperro, you will have so much to fill your days and then come back to the farm and park your car right outside the door of your cottage in its quiet location away from the hustle and bustle.

Summer BBQ and Winter Woodburner /Logburner

We provide free of charge a gas fired BBQ, please book your ‘slot’ with us as it is popular in the summer – we just ask it gets returned clean, so we also ask for a £20 refundable cash deposit on the day. We have a BBQ area in the orchard with large teak table and 8 chairs, or can wheel it to your cottage. For cyclists and paddlers – here you will find a kindred spirit please ask if you have specific requirements for storage.

Hook Cottage and Lily Cottage have woodburners / log burners which are mesmerising and the perfect way to set the cosy atmosphere after a day exploring all Cornwall has to offer.

We fell our own wood and large baskets of logs and kindling can be bought (£5) from the barn using the honesty box system. We lay the fire for guests on arrival, so as soon as you arrive all that needs to be done is to strike one of the provided matches. We hope to install a woodburner into Erin Cottage soon.

Art and Experiences

Head over to the Experiences and Retreats menu to find more great ways to add to your important holiday here with us at Cardwen Farm. New for 2026 Siobhan is finally sharing her studio space with visitors enabling us to run new and fun classes and experiences. Watch this space as you will soon be able to buy her paintings and prints online. Thank you to all the guests who have nagged me on this….

Pelynt – Our Local Village

Pelynt has two village shops, butchers, post office, garage, 2 churches and 2 hairdressers plus a cooperative shop / cafe where you can find gifts, local art, plants and antiques. Our local pub, The Jubilee serves food and is often very popular. Nearby historic Looe harbour is full of shops, restaurants, cafes, bakeries and galleries. Polperro is also a must with fine pubs and independent shops to explore set against the magnificent harbour and sea. The village spar is particular stocked with a surprisingly wide range catering to many dietary needs and are able to take orders in advance and have these goods in your cottage on arrival. The Cooks Range is a great option to know you have here waiting for you, great quality meals that can easily be popped in the oven whilst you are unpacking. Just email your shopping list to orders.pelyntpo@btconnect.com. Unlike supermarket deliveries which we ask be delivered after check in time, the friendly Pelynt team know the cottages well and can have you stocked up and ready to go with ease. We can also provide you with a Butchers pack of fresh local meat and eggs waiting in your fridge. Please ask.

For supermarkets you have a wide choice, Liskeard has a large Morrisons and an Aldi. Bodmin has Asda, Morrisons, Lidl, Aldi. Tesco, Asda and Waitrose will also deliver to the farm. Tredinnick Farm Shop also offer delivery.

Unlike many rural destinations we have super fast wifi available (at no extra charge) in each cottage. Our TV’s are smart TV’s meaning you can log into your own Netflix, Amazon, ‘catch up’ accounts etc on a large screen.

In the future we plan to develop the BBQ area in the orchard to offer a full outside kitchen.  We have spent over £250,000 in improvements to the property inside and out since October 2018. We will continue in this vein and have already seen it pay off with consistent positive feedback and repeat bookings.
