Our Facilities

Cardwen Farm is nestled in over 2.5 acres of mature gardens with ponds and a river that runs right down to nearby fishing village Polperro. With an impressive collection of over 200 species of Camellia’s, Rhododendron, Acer, an Orchard of fruit trees and substantial shrub planting Siobhan has made it her mission since taking ownership in 2018 to add even more bee friendly colour and flowers to the already very  impressive garden.

In the dip of a valley surrounded by farmland you will often find cows and sheep leaning over the fence line, watching our free range hens who provide guests with free fresh eggs daily. Our coastal and countryside location enjoys the best of wildlife, with pheasants and a huge variety of wild birds to watch from the comfort of the many patio sets and benches, you may even be lucky enough to see deer move through the fields.

Guests in Lily Cottage are thrilled to learn of the resident beautiful Barn Owls who live in a purpose built owl box in the roof of this converted barn holiday cottage. The owl box contains a camera which sends a live feed to the TV in the living room. We are currently  in the process of bringing Owl TV live to the website and the other cottages. For those quiet and patient enough, guests who sit outside at dusk will be treated to the owls flying away from Lily Cottage to hunt and rear young owlets.

When not in a pandemic

We provide a locally baked cream tea waiting in your cottage, and some milk. The perfect start to your holiday and very popular with guests. A little too popular with Siobhan as there are usually a couple of irresistible scones left over… The cottages will always have individual sachets of Cornish Tea, Cornish Coffee and Cornish Sugar ready, a few dishwasher tabs and cleaning supplies to get you going. If you have any questions about what to bring get in touch, we try to ‘think of everything” so you don’t need to pack the proverbial kitchen sink. Each cottage has a washing machine and there is an honesty box tumble dryer in the barn.

Summer BBQ

We provide free of charge a gas fired BBQ, please book your ‘slot’ with us as it is popular in the summer – we just ask it gets returned clean, so we also ask for a £20 refundable deposit on the day. We have a BBQ area in the orchard with gazebo, or can wheel it to your cottage. For cyclists and paddlers – here you will find a kindred spirit with room to store bikes, kayaks, boards etc – hoses for washing and places for drying.

With the exception of Erin Cottage, the cottages and farmhouse have woodburners which are mesmerising and the perfect way to set the cosy atmosphere after a day exploring all Cornwall has to offer.

We fell our own wood and large baskets of logs and kindling can be bought (£5) from the barn using the honesty box system. We lay the fire for guests on arrival, so as soon as you arrive all that needs to be done is to strike one of the provided matches. We hope to instal a woodburner into Erin Cottage soon.

The location, location, location! of Cardwen Farm was a huge selling point to us when we bought it, as the advantage of its position is perfect for holidaymakers. You can find us easily without travelling down lanes with grass in the middle, yet we are still in the country and by the sea, away from light pollution – on a clear night you can see the Milky Way in full glory. With easy access to the A30 and A38 it is a great base to explore the delights of Cornwall and South Devon. Walkers have great access to the South West Coast Path, the fantastic beaches of Polperro, Looe, Talland, Lantic, Seaton, Portwrinkle are within easy reach. Close to Bodmin Moor and an easy 40 minute drive to the most popular North Cornwall coast destinations. Located between the historic fishing villages of Looe and Polperro, you will have so much to fill your days and then come back to the farm and park your car right outside the door of your cottage in its quiet location away from the hustle and bustle.

Pelynt – Our Local Village

Pelynt has two village shops, butchers, post office, garage, 2 churches and 2 hairdressers plus a cooperative shop / cafe where you can find gifts, local art, plants and antiques. Our local pub, The Jubilee serves food and is often very popular. Nearby historic Looe harbour is full of shops, restaurants, cafes, bakeries and galleries. Polperro is also a must with fine pubs and independent shops to explore set against the magnificent harbour and sea.

For supermarkets you have a wide choice, Liskeard has a large Morrisons and an Aldi. Bodmin has Asda, Lidl, Aldi. Tesco, Asda and Waitrose will also deliver to the farm. Please get in touch if you want shopping to arrive before you check in. The local Spar also offer grocery and cream tea deliveries for holidaymakers as do Tredinnick Farm Shop.

Unlike many rural destinations we have super fast wifi available (at no extra charge) in each cottage. Our TV’s are smart TV’s meaning you can log into your own Netflix, Amazon, ‘catch up’ accounts etc on a large screen.

In the future we plan to develop the BBQ area in the orchard to offer a full outside kitchen, and convert one of our outbuildings into a craft studio where guests can enroll in artisan led courses to really add a special memory to their holiday. We have spent over £200,000 in improvements to the property inside and out since October 2018. We will continue in this vein and have already seen it pay off with consistent positive feedback and repeat bookings.
